this week...

there has been an abundance of:

crafting...
I finished this very sweet little custom boy doll. I have also come to a sort of decision about my doll making that I will think a bit more about before sharing it here. But because of that I would love to clear my shop, so am offering 50% off what is left there, using the coupon code SALE123.

practicing embroidery stitches for a project I want to start soon

There has been lots of  baking, making and cooking:
cashew nut and dried fruit bars
feta cheese and spinach quiche
mung bean and rice soup (Joa was supervising the making of this right next to where I keep the camera... hence the photo)
Short bread biscuits to give to our friends the bin men who very kindly brought the kids Easter eggs on Monday

There has been lots of weather: the beginning of the week cold and wet and windy
 a very wet walk

the wind blasting the sea foam up over the cliffs onto the path

There has been some (but not too much) cleaning...
 with fabulous shoes
and there has been time for me...

Hope your week was just as lovely and that the weekend is filled with joy and laughter x

easter break

We've really enjoyed our Easter break, it's been very full of special moments and we made lots of special memories.
morning crafting, Rebe's egg box hen puppet
Rebe's pen friend came to visit us with her mama, firm friends from the second they saw each other
enjoying the spring sunshine and ice cream at the village's wee cafe

Rebe's tenderness and care of Benny touches me deeply all the time. Today I found that she had mended his tights for him
more friends who visited us today armed with lots of cake, laughter and chatter
 kite flying on the beach
early morning knitting (check out the bed head)
a ladybird loving boy finding this year's first ladybird

feeling the sand under his feet and the water on his legs
so much Easter fun can be pretty tiring :-)

love in stitch form...

I got a really wonderful, gorgeous, lovely happy package today. In it was the most beautiful cardi knitted for me by my lovely friend Melissa, who blogs over here and sells the sweetest gnomes and gorgeous hand spun yarn here
I love how soft and warm it is. There is gorgeous movement and the shape is so cool!
The buttons are completely perfect and so beautiful.
(It's not easy taking pictures of myself, so I thought I'd give you a full frontal using the mirror...but realised it's so dirty you can hardly make me out lol....then I thought I'd be honest and at least show you anyway.)

But that was not all in our parcel, there were some of her lovely gnomes that I had commissioned and didn't get around to photographing yet. But inside was also a very special gift for Benny...
At first he didn't believe it was really for him...
and was so happy when I told him he really could keep the armadillo, and for more than 'loads of days and loads of nights', in fact forever.
 He named him Sandy,
 and the pair are inseparable.

Thank you Melissa and I am really looking forward to making your family a baby doll in exchange for all this wonderful love in stitch form :-)

how to wear a hug...

Do you remember this doll I made for an exchange a wee while ago? Well, the post today brought the shawl that my dear friend Mel knitted for me.

Oh I love it so much! It is incredibly soft and the colour is divine.
As soon as I put in on a real warmth spread over my shoulders. I know that it's not just the warmth of the wool. But this is like wearing a million hugs.
Mel wrote a gorgeous note that she sent with the package telling me how much she carried this shawl around with her while she was working on it and how often she thought of me while she was knitting it. And I can feel it, there in every stitch is her love and care. I am carrying her warmth and friendship around my shoulders and it makes me smile and feel so glad and happy to have found a friend like Mel :-)

I want to show off to you my lovely winter boots:
I had spent a few evenings looking and searching for just the right thing online (there just isn't the selection here locally so it has to be online) I finally found the right boots and I was so lucky because my mum wanted to  get them for me as my early Christmas present :-) yay for sheep lined, warm winter boots and yay for mummies who buy them for you (thank you Bubs!)!
So I am feeling better again. Allowing myself to feel my feelings last weekend was very freeing and in fact I have felt so much better we have even been doing some painting...

Yesterday afternoon we made Joa his Halloween costume for Buddies.

He'd make a great Mr Strong...if only I could persuade him to wear it ;-P
It's hard if your mum thinks you have hilarious shoes and she wants you to wear them all the time...and it's hard when you have a big brother like Benny...

A summer story...

Once upon a time, it was the wettest summer the kingdom had seen for years. It rained and it rained, hardly stopping for breath between the soaking wet days. A challenge was set throughout the land to find a way to stop the rain. A band of 5 strong and brave adventurers heard about this challenge and decided to take it up. So they packed their bags with supplies, raincoats and plenty of dry clothes and set off...
The 5 had a plan. They knew of a giant. He was a kind and friendly giant called |Minian who lived in a beautiful garden in the depths of West Cork. They knew that he alone had the strength to blow the rain drops away, out of the sky. Brave and bold the 5 set out to find Minian and to ask him to help the kingdom get it's summer back.

The 5 reached the garden and started to look for Minian. The way was confusing, twisting in and out of rocks, over raging rivers and beneath trees dripping with rain. The 5 had lost their way and were wondering what to do when they heard a tiny sneeze, then a snort.

On top of a rock they saw a little wee woman, busy blowing her nose. The 5 were delighted to find Nora Snots. They had heard of her, in fact many a yarn they had listened to without ever realising that Nora Snots lived in Minian's garden and would be able to direct them the giant.

She told them the way but advised them to call a few people to let them know where they were going first (just in case). So Benny rang a certain Mr Gannon to tell him of the adventure. He didn't have much to say but the 5 felt reassured knowing that he knew their story so far.
They carried on, past interesting messages,
 challenging games
 Until they found him:
There was Minian lying fast asleep behind the trees. The adventurers 5 called to him and told him of the plight of the kingdom and he listened with kindness in his heart and promised to try his best to blow the rain drops away.
The 5 had done all they could. They thanked Minian and made their way back through his garden stopping to marvel at all the tawter.
They told each other their own story: the story of themselves
(after all, this is the best story is it not).

On passing the rock they thanked Nora Snots for her help and kindness and told her about tissues.
At the entrance to Minian's garden the 5 found a cave and peeked in.
Within they found a fairy who was making the most beautiful art...
As a gift to reward their bravery and sense of adventure the fairy gave them each a piece of her art,
telling them to carry it in their stomachs.

The 5 returned to the kingdom with magic in their bellies and fond memories in their hearts and were greeted with great fanfare and honored like kings and queens for their quest to save summer.
Let's hope Minian manages to blow away the raindrops!
